KINGSTON, R.I. – Saint Louis overcame a 2-1 deficit to post a 3-2 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Rhode Island Friday night at Keaney Gymnasium.
The match was a battle of defense at the net as the Billikens out-blocked the Rams 18-13, led by
Kayla Jansen's 12 rejections. SLU's 18 blocks tied the A-10's team season high, while Jansen's 12 blocks equaled the league's individual season best.
Trinity Luckett and
Delaney Rice added six and five blocks, respectively.
Rice and
Addy Brus tied for match-high honors with 13 kills apiece, while Luckett and Jansen each chipped in nine kills. Luckett hit a match-high .381 (9-1-21) and Jansen hit .318 (9-2-22).
Carlie Rodgers notched a match-high 24 digs and joined Rice with three service aces.
Abby Lynn registered a double-double of 20 assists and a season-high 16 digs.

Set 1 – With the set tied for a third time at 7-7, Saint Louis took off with a 6-0 run. The Billikens led by as many as 12 points before winning by 10.
Set 2 – Rhode Island went in front for good at 2-1 and built a 14-7 advantage. SLU closed to within two at 16-14, and later narrowed the gap to 23-20 after trailing 21-14, but Rhody tallied the last two points.
Set 3 – The middle set featured 10 ties and six lead changes. The Billikens assembled a 12-4 run that resulted in a 17-15 edge. After the Rams regained the upper hand at 20-18, SLU surged ahead 23-20 before Rhode Island turned the tables with a set-ending 6-1 run.
Set 4 – After a strong start put Saint Louis on top 12-5, Rhode Island chipped away and tied the set at 17. Four more deadlocks ensued, the final one at 23-23, but two kills by Rice sent the match to a deciding fifth frame.
Set 5 – A 4-0 spurt gave Saint Louis a 6-2 lead. Rhode Island recorded the next two points to cut the margin in half, but that was as close as the Rams would get as the Billikens pulled away.
The Billikens host Loyola Chicago Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m.
