Emily Gaebe scored her school-record-tying 16th goal of the season in the 20th minute to propel eighth-seeded Saint Louis past Kansas 1-0 in an NCAA Championship first-round game Friday night at Hermann Stadium.
•The victory sends Saint Louis (15-1-6) to the NCAA Championship second round for a second consecutive season and third time in the past four years. The Billikens will play USC, the No. 1 seed in SLU's portion of the bracket, on Friday, Nov. 22, at a time to be announced. The Trojans (16-1-3) were 5-0 first-round winners over Sacramento State.
•Also advancing to Los Angeles and playing Friday are No. 4 seed Virginia and No. 5 seed Wisconsin. The teams advancing from Friday's games will square off in the round of 16 on Sunday, Nov. 24, in Los Angeles.
•Gaebe equaled her own school season mark for goals set last season. She increased her school-record career totals to 48 goals and 118 points.

Hannah Larson collected her team-leading seventh assist of the year. The Gaebe-from-Larson combination collaborated for a fourth time this season, most on the team.

Emily Puricelli made three saves and picked up her 11th shutout of the season. It was the Billikens' 14th clean sheet of the year.
•
Lyndsey Heckel made a major contribution to the shutout, clearing a ball off the line in the 83rd minute.
•The attendance of 3,136 was the third highest for a Billiken women's soccer home game.
