Sparkling Attack Sends Billikens Past George Mason, 3-0

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis recorded a season-high .400 hitting percentage in a 3-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over George Mason Friday night at Chaifetz Pavilion.

The Billikens pounded 42 kills and committed just 10 errors in 80 attempts as four players hit .300 or higher.

Trinity Luckett (12-3-18, .500) and Addy Brus (12-3-29, .310) tied for match-high honors with 12 kills apiece. Tea Kalajdzic had six kills and hit .500 (6-1-10), while Kayla Jansen chipped in four kills and hit .667 (4-0-6).

Delaney Rice added seven kills to the Billiken attack. Abby Lynn and Addie Lyon posted 20 and 14 assists, respectively.

SLU also was strong at the service line with nine aces, its second-highest total in a three-set match this season. Brus led the way with four, with Lynn and Carlie Rodgers notching two apiece.

Rodgers tallied a match-high 18 digs and Jansen registered three blocks to lead the defensive effort.

Saint Louis def. George Mason 25-19, 25-16, 25-18
Set 1 – After trailing early, Saint Louis used a 4-0 spurt to go in front 12-9, and the Billikens gradually pulled away from there.

Set 2 – George Mason again grabbed an early lead, but a 5-0 run put SLU on top for good at 9-7. The margin floated between one and four points until the Bills closed the set with a 7-1 flurry.

Set 3 – When Saint Louis scored to create the eighth tie of the set at 8-8, it was the beginning of an 8-2 run that gave the Billikens a 15-10 advantage. George Mason narrowed the gap to three points twice, but that was as close as the Patriots would get.

The Billikens and Patriots meet again Saturday at 1 p.m.
