ST. LOUIS – Brooklyn Gray scored all 14 of her points in the second half to lead Saint Louis to a 69-59 victory over Valparaiso.
Valparaiso opened strong with an 8-0 run, prompting a SLU timeout. The Billikens responded with an 11-3 run to cut the lead to two. The game remained close for the first three quarters before Saint Louis erupted for 26 points in the fourth, compared to 13 for Valpo.
Tierra Simon recorded her second consecutive double-double and third of the season, finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Marcavia Shavers matched her career-high with 10 rebounds.
Peyton Kennedy led the way for Saint Louis with 15 points and Mia Bergstrom rounded out the double-figure scoring with 14.
Kennedy Calhoun tallied a season-high nine assists, marking the second straight game a Billiken has reached that total.
Saint Louis shot 45 percent from the field while holding Valparaiso to 34.4 percent. The Billikens dominated the rebounding battle, 48-28, and outscored the Beacons 40-16 in the paint.
SLU will wrap up its non-conference schedule Saturday, Dec. 21, against Bellarmine at home. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
