WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Billikens looked to make a comeback in the fourth quarter against Norfolk State but saw the effort fall short, losing 75-66 on Saturday at the Coaches vs. Racism Roundball Classic in Washington, D.C.
Saint Louis outscored the Spartans 19-12 in the fourth, but it was too little, too late, as the team faced a 16-point deficit.
Freshman Mia Bergstrom continued to shine from three-point range, scoring all 21 of her career-high points from behind the arc. It is tied for the most three-pointers by a freshman since Mia Johnson in the 2004-05 season, when she set the freshman scoring record with 31 points. Bergstrom is the only freshman in the NCAA to hit seven threes in a game this season.
Kennedy Calhoun had 14 points, five rebounds, and six assists, the most by a Billiken this season. Peyton Kennedy rounded out the double-figure scoring with 14 points, marking her seventh game this season with 10 or more points.
SLU won the rebounding battle 43-34, but Norfolk State shot 48.4 percent from the field compared to SLU's 31.7 percent.
The Billikens have three home games before starting Atlantic 10 play on the road. They will face Ohio to begin the home stretch on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Chaifetz Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
