THE BASICS
Saint Louis slugged its way to one victory Friday and took advantage of an opponent's miscue to earn another on day one of Austin Peay's Governors Classic.

A seven-run second inning powered the Billikens to an 11-2 win over Indiana State. SLU scored all its runs in the fifth inning to defeat Austin Peay 4-2.

GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Indiana State loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first inning, but SLU starter
Taylor Hochman limited the Sycamores to two runs.
•
Chloe Rhine sparked the Bills' second-inning uprising with a leadoff solo shot, her second home run of the season.
Abby Ulsas tied it with an RBI infield single,
Natalie Sullivan drove in a run while reaching on an error,
Allie Marietta drew a bases-loaded walk,
Kelsey Etling plated a run with a fielder's choice, and Rhine made it a three-RBI inning by smacking a two-run double.
•
Cami Newbanks' RBI single in the third expanded the lead to 8-2.
•The Billikens ended the game with three tallies in the sixth. Pinch runner
Sophia Boente scored on a wild pitch, and Etling walked it off with her third homer of the year, a two-run blast.

GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Hochman upped her record to 5-1. She struck out four and allowed just one earned run, five hits and one walk.
•Ulsas added a single for a two-hit game.
•Marietta doubled and
Jocelyn Abbott singled.

GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Austin Peay scored single runs in the second and third innings, but Billiken starter
Isabel Royle kept things under control by working out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.
•It stayed 2-0 until the top of the fifth, when a one-out error cost Austin Peay dearly. Abbott cut the Governors' lead in half with an RBI single, and Newbanks delivered a two-out, three-run homer to put the Billikens on top 4-2. All four runs were unearned.
•Austin Peay brought the tying run to the plate in the fifth and seventh innings, and the go-ahead run was at bat in the sixth, but Royle kept the Governors off the scoreboard.

GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Saint Louis turned three double plays.
•Royle moved to 2-1. She struck out nine and scattered six hits.
•Newbanks' home run, her third of the season, lifted her team-leading RBI total to 16.
•Abbott collected a second single for a two-hit game.
•Rhine, Sullivan and
Abby Mallo picked up a single apiece.
