THE BASICS
Saint Louis erased a 6-0 deficit and pulled even with Illinois, but the Fighting Illini scored a late run and held on to defeat the Billikens 7-6 Monday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
SLU is 12-7 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Illinois plated a run in the top of the first inning and added five tallies in the fourth.
•The Billikens began their comeback in the fifth as Jocelyn Abbott smacked an RBI double.
•Saint Louis erupted for five runs in the sixth. Following RBI singles off the bats of Kelsey Etling, Abbott and Kendall Johnson, pinch hitter Jane Kaniecki delivered a two-out, two-run double that knotted the score at 6-6.
•Illinois pushed across a run in the seventh and made it stand.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Allie Marietta was 3-for-3 including a double.
•Johnson added a single for a two-hit game.
•Abby Mallo and Chloe Rhine had a single apiece.
•Reliever Lily Strand pitched well despite being saddled with the loss. Strand tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed one run and three hits.
