THE BASICS
Saint Louis broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning, but Western Illinois answered with a sixth-inning rally and edged the Billikens 3-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
SLU is 12-8 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Natalie Sullivan delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Saint Louis on top 2-0.
•Western Illinois responded by plating three runs in the top of the sixth.
•The Billikens put two runners aboard in the sixth and loaded the bases in the seventh but failed to score.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Starting pitcher Isabel Royle pitched four scoreless innings. Royle struck out seven and allowed just three hits and one walk.
•Abby Ulsas singled twice.
•Jane Kaniecki and Kelsey Etling had a single apiece.

The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play with a three-game series vs. Massachusetts March 16-17. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game start at noon.
