Billiken Baseball Suffers Setback Against Bearcats

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University baseball suffered a setback against Cincinnati here Saturday afternoon, falling 13-4 to the Bearcats at the Billiken Sports Center.

The loss moves the Billikens to 16-5 on the year and marks only the fourth time this season they have given up double-figure runs.

Cincinnati struck first in the second game of the series, with a sacrifice fly plating its first run of the day. Tyler Fogarty's seventh double of the season helped the Billikens answer as Cole Smith scored their first run of the day to tie the game at one apiece.

The Bearcats scored five unanswered runs through the next two innings, giving them the 6-1 advantage before Smith scored SLU's second run of the day, this time on a wild pitch. The newest Big 12 team continued to generate offense, plating seven additional runs through the top of the ninth inning.

Subbing into the lineup late in the game, Dominic Cusamano and Easton Richtor each tallied an RBI, boosting the Billikens to four runs on the day. The Bearcats registered their final out of the game in the form of a strikeout to hand SLU only its fifth loss of the season and second on its home field.

The series between the Billikens and Bearcats will be decided in game three tomorrow at noon at the Billiken Sports Center.
