ST. LOUIS – Behind a home run, triple and double from Patrick Clohisy, the Saint Louis University baseball team defeated Western Illinois 14-4 here Tuesday afternoon in seven innings.
It was the Billikens fourth win over the Leathernecks this season, after they defeated them at a neutral site in Millington, Tenn., Feb. 23-25. The Billikens 14 runs today mark the ninth game in which they have put up double figure scores.
The Leathernecks got on the board first at the Billikens Sports Center going up 3-0 on a windy, cloudy afternoon in St. Louis. It didn't take long for SLU to answer, though, as a three-run third inning tied the score at three apiece.
SLU scored the go ahead run in the fourth inning off a three-run home run from Clohisy to put the Billikens up 7–4. The home team tacked on six additional runs in the following inning highlighted by the Billikens second home run of the day, this time by Moore, to go up 12-4. With the advantage, the Billikens cruised to a 10-run victory with the Clohisy's four runs and four RBIs leading the way.
In relief, Jackson Yarberry earned his third win of the season on the mound, as the freshman pitcher faced 11 batters and only allowed two hits and one run through three complete innings.
The Billikens continue their eight-game home stand over the weekend when Loyola Marymount University comes to town. First pitch of the three-game series against the Lions is set for Friday at 3 p.m.
