ST. LOUIS - Playing in extra innings for the first time during the 2024 season, Saint Louis University baseball earned a walk-off win over SIUE here Tuesday, defeating the Cougars 5-4 in extra innings.

With the bases loaded and only one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, Patrick Clohisy hit a perfectly placed ball to the outfield driving Ian Blazier home to give the Billikens their 20th win of their 2024 season. 

SLU took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning at the Billiken Sports Center, as Chase Beattie drove in Tyler Fogarty, marking the home team's first score of the day. In the next half inning, the Cougars answered, before SLU solidified its 3-1 advantage off another Beattie RBI and a sacrifice fly from Dominic Cusamano in the bottom of the fifth.

SIUE fought back, take the 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth, before Beattie, entering the starting lineup for the first time this season, recorded his third RBI of the game to tie the contest 4-4. 

Heading into the 10th inning, Josh Cunningham struck out two batters, helping the Billikens escape unharmed, before Clohisy drove in the game-winning run solidying the team's 20th win of the year. 

Making the start for SLU on the mound, Henry Litman pitched four complete innings registering four strikeouts before Dawson Smith sat down three in his four innings of relief. 

The Billikens continue Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when they travel to Saint Joseph's for a three-game series. The series between SLU and the Hawks will begin Friday at 2 p.m. (CST) in Philedelphia, Pa.
