PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis University head baseball coach
Darin Hendrickson reached 500 wins with the program here Friday, as the Billikens raced to a 10-2 victory over Saint Joseph's.
The win boosts SLU to 21-6 overall and 4-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play as Hendrickson's overall record with the Billikens moves to 500-380 in his 17th year at the helm of the program.
It was a defensive battle to start the Billikens' fourth conference game of the season and first A-10 road contest. After giving up a lone run in the bottom of the first inning, starting pitcher
Jackson Holmes threw five scoreless frames to keep the Hawks bats silent.Â
Offensively, SLU did not trail for long, as
Easton Richter drove in the team's first RBI before Easton Sitzman's single to center field sent the sophomore leadoff hitter across home plate himself to give the Billikens the 2-1 lead.Â
Both team's bats were quiet in the ensuing innings, before
Patrick Clohisy's sixth home run of the season extended SLU's lead to 3-1 early in the fifth.Â
Each team tacked on one run in the seventh inning before the Billikens' bats exploded in the ninth and
Drew Winters recorded an RBI single whileÂ
Knox Preston and Sitzman drove home two RBIs apiece.Â
Sitzman's three RBIs led the team he and
Cole Smith each recorded three hits and Clohisy scored three runs.Â
On the mound, Holmes' three strikeouts and lone run gave the junior right-handed pitcher his sixth win of the season while
Ethan Bell earned his fourth save of the year, pitching 2.2 innings in relief.Â
The Billikens continue their season tomorrow against the Hawks in Philadelphia. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. (CST) at Smithson Field.Â
