WASHINGTON, D.C. - Saint Louis University baseball earned a series opening win over George Washington here Friday afternoon, defeating the Revolutionaries 8-5 at Barcroft Park.
The win moves the Billikens overall 2024 record to 28-10 and Atlantic 10 Conference mark to 9-4.
Saint Louis struck first in its fifth-straight road game, as
Easton Richter's seventh double of the season drove
Drew Winters and
Patrick Clohisy home to give the Billikens the 2-0 lead in the opening inning.
In the third,
Tyler Fogarty cross home plate for the visitors courtesy of a fielding error by the Revolutionaries. In the bottom half of the inning, the home team rallied, plating two runs to pull within one, 3-2.
The teams traded runs in the fifth and the sixth and the Billikens took a one-run lead into the seventh.
The seventh inning proved to be a big one for both the Billikens and Revolutionaries, with SLU tacking on four runs and GW adding one of its own. Despite GW scoring a final run in the bottom of the eighth, Saint Louis came out on top, 8-5.
Offensively, Richter drove in a team-high three RBIs while Clohisy scored a team-high three runs.
Making the start and earning the win for SLU,
Jackson Holmes (8-1) pitched 5.1 innings.
Josh Cunningham and
Ethan Bell also made appearances on the mound, the latter striking out one batter.
The Billikens continue their series against the Revolutionaries tomorrow at 12 p.m. (CST).
