Billiken Baseball Defeats Revs in Series Finale

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Behind a pair of Cole Smith RBIs, Saint Louis University baseball took game three against George Washington Sunday afternoon, defeating the Revolutionaries 4-2.

The Atlantic 10 Conference series win was the Billikens' third of the season as they move to 10-5 in the A-10 and 29-11 overall.

George Washington got on the board first in Sunday's contest scoring in the bottom of the opening inning after defeating the Billikens in Saturday's game 5-3. In the third, the visitors got to work, as Easton Richter plated the team's first run of the day off a double by Drew Winters. Winters scored his own run soon after, giving SLU a 2-1 lead as Tyler Fogarty drove him home.

In the bottom of the fourth, Smith made his presence known, driving in his first RBI of the day to extend the Billikens lead to 3-1. Despite giving up one final run in the next half inning, SLU took the third game and the series, cushioned by an additional run driven in by Smtih in the top of the sixth.

Dawson Smith got the start for SLU on the mound, striking out two batters through two complete innings. In relief, Owen Kelly and Evan Gray pitched 4.2 and 2.0 innings, respectively, the former earning the win and the latter the save. Kelly struck out four batters in his 4.2 innings of work while Gray tallied three.

The Billikens will be back in action Tuesday for a mid-week contest against Butler. The game, which will be played in Indianapolis, wraps up an eight-game road stretch before SLU kicks off a seven-game home stand next weekend. First pitch against the Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m. (CST).
