ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University baseball (34-11, 13-6) dropped an opening series matchup with Dayton (31-16, 13-5) here Friday, falling 11-3 to the Flyers at the Billiken Sports Center.
The Billikens found themselves in an early deficit against their Atlantic 10 Conference foe giving up five runs in the opening inning. A solo shot from
Ethan Sitzman got the home team on the board at the bottom of the first, but the Flyers tacked on two and four runs, respectively, in the second and third innings.
Another home run, this one by
Tyler Fogarty, moved the score to 11-2 before
Hayden Moore drove in
Ben Gallaher to give the Billikens their third in final run for the day in the bottom of the eighth.
SLU out-hit the visiting Flyers, 11-10, but stranded 13 and committed four errors in the loss.
Despite the defeat,
Henry Litman was a bright spot for Saint Louis on the mound, pitching seven complete innings and only giving up one run on four hits. The senior right-handed pitcher also tallied three strikeouts while facing 28 total batters.
The Billikens continue their series against the Flyers Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST). The team's annual Senior Day ceremony will take place prior to first pitch at 1:30 p.m. (CST) at the Billiken Sports Center.
