Billikens Drop Rubber Match to UMass to Conclude Regular Season

AMHERST, Mass. - Saint Louis University concluded its regular season here Saturday, falling 5-2 to the University of Massachusetts.

The Billikens finish with an overall record of 37-14 and an Atlantic 10 Conference mark of 16-8 and capture their first regular-season championship since 2018.

Brenden Stressler and Knox Preston got Saint Louis on the board first, each driving in an RBI to boost SLU to a 2-0 lead midway through the second inning. UMass answered, though, stringing together five unanswered runs to ultimately take the game, 5-2, and the series, 2-1.

Five Billikens saw stints on the mound in the loss, with starter Tommy Ray striking out a team-high two batters.

Saint Louis now turns its attention to the A-10 Baseball Championship which begins Tuesday in Tysons, Va. The seven-team, double-elimination tournament will conclude with the championship final on Saturday, May 25, all streamed on ESPN+.

SLU receives a bye into the second round and will open championship play against the winner between No. 4 Richmond and fifth-seeded George Washington on Wednesday, May 22, with first pitch slated for 10:00 a.m. (CST).
