ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis opened the new SLU Field Hockey Complex and its 2024 campaign on Friday against Central Michigan. The Chippewas came out on top with a 4-1 victory.

Saint Louis (0-1) is back in action at home on Sunday against Bellarmine at 1 p.m. Central Michigan (1-0) takes on Bellarmine tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a neutral-site matchup at the SLU Field Hockey Complex.

The Chippewas struck first, with Cameron Pluciennik scoring in the 12th minute to give CMU the early lead.

Josefina Perez responded in the 24th minute with the Billikens' first goal at their new field. She collected a pass from
Olivia Smith and carried it into the circle, sneaking one behind the Central Michigan goalie to put the Billikens on the board.

The score remained 1-1 at halftime, but Central Michigan went on top with a score early in the second half when Mallory Camryn tallied to make it 2-1. The Chippewas didn't look back from there, tacking on two more goals by Kaitlyn Bowker and another for Camryn for the final 4-1 margin.

It was a fairly even matchup statistically as SLU out-shot the Chippewas 12-11, with CMU holding the 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
