ST. LOUIS – For the second straight match, Saint Louis fell in heartbreaking fashion in overtime as Ball State defeated SLU 3-2 in the extra session on Wednesday.
Â
The Billikens dip to 0-3 on the year, while Ball State improves to 1-2.
Â
Josefina Perez scored both goals for the Billikens to bring her team-leading goal total to four on the season. She scored SLU's first goal just 29 seconds into the match.
Abby Vidas started the scoring play with a long run. She sent it to
Sierra Larson, who found Perez for the opening tally early on.
Â
Ball State would score two second-half goals to go up 2-1 and set up Perez's late-game heroics.
Â
SLU earned a penalty corner with the regulation clock at zeros, after having several threatening chances late in regulation. Vidas ended up with the ball after the insert, and she fired a shot that pinballed off the goalie. Perez was there to bury the rebound to send the game into overtime.
Â
But Ball State would get the golden goal from Emma Van Hal to give the visitors the 3-2 victory.
Â
SLU freshman goalie
Abby Schalow was sharp in goal for SLU, making eight saves. Ball State goalkeeper Hannah Johnston was equal to the task with nine saves.

The Billikens play their first road match of the year on Sunday at Ohio. Game time against the Bobcats is 11 a.m. (CT).
