Billikens Fall to Weber State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Saint Louis fell 3-0 to Weber State Thursday in the opening match of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, hosted by Missouri State University.

The Billikens move to 3-4. Weber State, which won the Big Sky Conference last season and played in the NCAA Volleyball Championship, improves to 2-4.

A pair of freshmen led the way offensively for SLU with Tea Kalajdzic and Addy Brus registering six kills apiece.

The Billikens get right back at it on Friday when they play UT Arlington at the Hammons Student Center. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Bills face host Missouri State Saturday at 1 p.m.

Weber State def. Saint Louis 25-18, 25-19, 25-10

Set 1 – Saint Louis reeled off five of six points to take a 15-14 advantage in the first set and force a Weber State timeout. However, the Wildcats went on an 11-3 spurt from that point on to close out the first, 25-18.

Set 2 – The Billikens led 11-8 in the second set, but Weber State again rallied with eight of the next nine points to grab a lead it would not relinquish. A pair of kills by Brus and an Abby Lynn ace brought the Bills to within a point at 16-15, but Weber State closed the match on a 9-4 run to seal set two, 25-19.

Set 3 – Weber State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third and never looked back, cruising to the 25-10 set victory to clinch the match.
