CORALVILLE, Iowa –
Addy Brus delivered a match-high 23 kills, and Saint Louis overcame a first-set loss to defeat Iowa 3-1 Friday night on day two of Iowa's Kwik Star Klassic at Xtream Arena.
Brus recorded 20 or more kills for a second straight match and fourth time this season.
Delaney Rice tallied 14 kills and posted a team-high .355 hitting percentage (14-3-31), and
Tea Kalajdzic collected 10 kills.
Addie Lyon notched a season-high 31 assists and
Kate Aupperle added 20 assists to jump-start the Billikens' attack.
SLU's defensive effort was led by
Carlie Rodgers' 16 digs and
Trinity Luckett's six blocks.
Chloe Maughan and Rice chipped in nine digs and four blocks, respectively, for the Billikens, who improved to 5-6.
Saint Louis out-hit Iowa .230 to .198.

Set 1 – Iowa pulled out to a 10-4 lead and never trailed. SLU narrowed the gap to two points twice but could draw no closer.
Set 2 – Following ties of 6-6 and 7-7, the Billikens built a 15-9 advantage with an 8-2 run. The Hawkeyes answered with an 8-1 spurt to take their first lead of the set, 17-16. Trailing 19-18, Saint Louis scored four straight points for a 22-19 edge, only to see Iowa slice the lead to a single point twice. However, a kill from Luckett sealed the set.
Set 3 – A Saint Louis point tied the set for a sixth time, 8-8, and triggered an 11-4 run that put the Billikens on top 18-12. The Hawkeyes responded with a 5-0 flurry to make it 18-17, but SLU regrouped and claimed seven of the last nine points.
Set 4 – After Iowa grabbed a 4-1 advantage, SLU used a 7-2 run to surge in front 8-6. The Hawkeyes scored the next two points for an 8-8 deadlock, and the teams were tied at points 9 through 14. The set was knotted again at 18, 20, 21 and 22 before a Brus kill, a Rice/Luckett block and a Maughan service ace clinched the match for Saint Louis.
