BRONX, N.Y. – Four Saint Louis players recorded a hitting percentage of .357 or higher, and the Billikens completed an Atlantic 10 Conference road sweep of Fordham, 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym.
SLU evened its overall record at 7-7 and improved to 2-0 in the A-10. Fordham slipped to 4-7, 0-2.
The Billikens posted a .336 hitting percentage (49-12-110), their second highest of the season.
Tea Kalajdzic (12-2-21, .476) and
Addy Brus (16-1-34, .441) led the way with season-high marks, with Brus' 16 kills a match high.
Evelyn Fitz Hale (6-1-13) and
Trinity Luckett (7-2-14) hit .385 and .357, respectively.
Addie Lyon had 24 assists and three service aces, and
Vivian Kieffer chipped in three service aces as the Billikens registered 11 aces, their second-highest total of the year.
Carlie Rodgers posted a match-high 18 digs and was perfect on 17 serve receptions.
Saint Louis def. Fordham 25-19, 25-23, 25-22
Set 1 – Fordham owned a four-point lead twice before Saint Louis pulled even at 9-9. After the Rams scored three straight points, the Billikens took their first lead of the set, 15-14, with a 6-2 run. Fordham tied it at 15, 16, 17 and 18, but SLU finished with a 7-1 flurry.
Set 2 – Saint Louis held a five-point lead twice, the second a 13-8 advantage, but a 7-2 Fordham surge made it 15-15. Although SLU immediately regained the lead and was in front by three points on three occasions, Fordham managed to forge a 23-23 deadlock. However, a Brus kill and a Lyon service ace gave the Bills a 2-0 lead.
Set 3 – The set was tied at 14 after Fordham answered SLU's opening 10-4 run with a 10-4 spurt of its own. The Billikens went on top for good following an 18-18 tie and led 22-19, only to see the Rams trim the margin to one with two straight points. But SLU regained control and scored three of the next four points, including consecutive kills by Kalajdzic to end the match.
The Billikens play at Loyola Chicago Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m.
