ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University volleyball team earned its first Atlantic 10 victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Rhode Island on Friday night at Chaifetz Pavilion.
The Billikens improved to 9-10 overall and 1-7 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Rams dropped to 3-17 and 0-8 in the league.
SET 1: URI 25, SLU 19
The Billikens opened with a 4-0 run before the Rams answered with five straight. SLU responded with six consecutive points to go up 10-5, but Rhode Island battled back to tie it at 10. The teams traded points before the Rams went on a 7-0 run to close out the set.
SET 2: SLU 25, URI 18
The teams traded points early before the Billikens built a 7-3 lead. Rhode Island tied it at 8, but SLU responded with a run to go up 17-12 and held off the Rams to even the match at one set apiece.
SET 3: SLU 25, URI 18
After a back-and-forth start, the Billikens pulled ahead 12-7. Rhode Island closed within one at 14-13, but SLU regained control to extend its lead to 21-16 and took the set.
SET 4: SLU 25, URI 17
SLU jumped out to a 5-1 lead before the Rams tied it at 11. The Billikens then went on a 6-0 run to go up 17-11 and closed out the match in four sets.

- Kayla Jansen tied her career high with 10 kills.
- Jetta Brenning recorded a double-double with 40 assists and 18 digs, adding six kills.
- Alivia Bronner tallied four aces, while Vivian Kieffer added two.
- Justina Asamoa made her first collegiate start, setting career highs with six kills on .750 hitting, three total blocks and one dig.
- The Billikens hit .500 as a team in the fourth set.
