ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis Volleyball earned its first two conference wins, taking the weekend series against Rhode Island. The Billikens improved to .500, 10-10 overall and 2-7 in Atlantic 10 play.
Set 1: SLU 27, URI 25
Much like the first set between the Billikens and Rams in game one, game two started with both teams trading points in a back-and-forth first set. Both teams exchanged eight lead changes, and a total of 21 ties took place between the two teams.
Rhode Island held a small 22-19 lead before Saint Louis came back for a late set push. Strong outside hitting from
Tamia Maddox and
Tea Kalajdzic allowed the Billikens to crawl themselves back into the set and take the first set win. Everything flowed through the hands of
Jetta Brenning as she finished the set with 18 assists.
Set 2: SLU 25 - URI 23
The Rams quickly established themselves early in the first set, taking a quick 7-2 lead that caused Saint Louis to take their first timeout. The Rams led by as many as six points in the middle parts of the set before the Billikens started a push of their own. Saint Louis found some momentum, tying the game at 16 apiece, then winning the following point to take their first lead of the set. The Billkens held a two-point lead at 22-20, which moments later, set up an
Alivia Bronner ace to give the Bills match point and the victory.
Set 3: SLU 25 - URI 15
Rhode Island scored the first point of the set on a service ace, which was the only time they led in the set. The Billikens cruised to a six-point lead at the 12-6 mark when the Rams tried to stop the bleeding with their first timeout. The Bills continued to hit well against the Rams, thanks to Maddox and Kalajdzic, who both finished with 15 kills. Saint Louis found late set success, scoring nine of the last 12 points recorded.
