Saint Louis plays its final match at the SLU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday when the Billikens host Lock Haven in an Atlantic 10 Conference tilt. Game time is set for noon (CT).
Saint Louis needs a win against the Bald Eagles on Sunday to stay alive for an Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Championship bid. A win Sunday, along with a win next Friday at Davidson (and some additional help), would help SLU in securing its first-ever A-10 tourney appearance.
Sunday's match is the Billikens' Mental Health Awareness game. The team has partnered with the Befriend Movement, and fans are encouraged to take home free Befriend wristbands and join the movement to make a positive change in the world.
ABOUT THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis enters Sunday's game 5-7 overall and 1-3 in league play. SLU is at five wins on the season for just the fourth time in the last 20 years. The Billikens' conference win came against Richmond, the program's first-ever win against the Spiders and SLU's first A-10 road win since 2007.
Olivia Smith and Sierra Larson lead the Billikens with 11 points (5G, 1A) apiece. Abby Vidas (3G), Shaya Dry (3G) and Ignacia Manriquez (2G) have all scored multiple times for the Bills this year as well.
Abby Schalow is a three-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. She has a 1.82 goals against average. Her .792 save percentage is ninth in NCAA Division I.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Lock Haven is in search of its first win this season. Melanie Beall and Paula Sigley lead the Golden Eagles with two goals apiece.
NEW COACHING STAFF
The Billikens are led by interim head coach Laura Hurff. She guided Rhodes College to a 14-6 record last season as interim head coach. An accomplished player in her own right, she was a four-year starter at Syracuse and helped the Orange win the NCAA Championship in 2015.
Assisting Hurff is interim assistant coach Teresa Schmidt, a St. Louis native who played at Bellarmine. Graduate assistant Bodhi Littlefield was a four-year starter at Ohio.
50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON
This season marks the 50th anniversary of Billiken Field Hockey at Saint Louis University. The program began in 1975 under the direction of SLU professor and former Dutch national team player, Dr. Will van Beaumont.Â
PARKING
Street parking at the SLU Field Hockey Complex is located on Lasalle Street, which runs parallel to Chouteau Avenue.
