CHICAGO — Saint Louis defeated Loyola Chicago in a five-set thriller Tuesday evening at Gentile Arena, earning the program's first win over the Ramblers since they joined the Atlantic 10 in 2022.
SET 1 | Loyola Chicago 25, Saint Louis 21
Both teams traded early runs before Loyola took control late in the frame, pulling ahead 22-18 and holding on for the opening-set win.
SET 2 | Saint Louis 25, Loyola Chicago 22
The Billikens responded quickly, jumping out to an 8-5 lead and maintaining the advantage for most of the set. After the Ramblers tied it at 20, SLU closed strong to even the match at one set apiece.
SET 3 | Loyola Chicago 25, Saint Louis 18
Loyola used a 7-0 run to grab a 9-5 lead in the third. The Billikens battled back to tie it at 10 before the Ramblers regained momentum and pulled away down the stretch.
SET 4 | Saint Louis 25, Loyola Chicago 21
The fourth set featured six ties before SLU took a 15-12 lead and never trailed again. The Billikens held steady to force a decisive fifth set.
SET 5 | Saint Louis 15, Loyola Chicago 11
Saint Louis controlled the tiebreaker early, never allowing Loyola to score more than one point at a time until the match was tied at 7. From there, the Billikens surged ahead and closed out the win.
