Billikens Fall to Stanford

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Stanford drained a last-second 3-pointer to defeat Saint Louis 78-77 Friday night and capture the Acrisure Invitational title at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, Calif.

It was the first loss of the season for SLU, which falls to 6-1. Stanford improves to 6-1.

Stanford was at the line shooting a 1-and-1 with four seconds remaining and trailing by three. Ebuka Okorie made the first, then intentionally missed the second. Stanford got the offensive rebound, kicked it out to the corner, and Benny Gealer made a 3-pointer over a SLU defender for the game-winning basket.

Five Billikens scored in double figures, led by Trey Green who scored 15 points. Robbie Avila, Dion Brown and Ishan Sharma scored 12. Quentin Jones chipped in 11 points, including six points in the final minutes that gave SLU the lead.

Saint Louis hit its first 17 free throws and finished 26-for-28 from the line on the night. The Bills shot just 37.7 percent from the field, including a 32.1 percent mark in the second half.

The Billikens led by as many as 15 points in the first half and was ahead by 13 in the second half, but Stanford rallied by hitting seven 3s in the second half alone, including the last-second game-winner.

SLU plays its first true road game of the season on Tuesday when it travels to Los Angeles to face Loyola Marymount. Game time on ESPN+ is 9 p.m. CT.
