DAYTON, OHIO – The Saint Louis University baseball team split a doubleheader with Dayton on Saturday.
GAME ONE
The Billikens got ahead early with a two-RBI single from
Riley Iffrig in the third and a
Patrick Mendiola RBI single in the fourth put the Billikens ahead 3-0.
The Flyers got on the board in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.
Saint Louis answered with a four-run inning in the sixth.
Ethan Sitzman hit a bases clearing double and
Max McGwire drove him in two batters later to lead 7-1.
Dayton managed two more runs but could not catch the Billikens and Saint Louis won 7-3.
Preston Salazar earned his first win of the season with 1.1 inning of work, allowing one run with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Dayton got ahead early, scoring in the first to lead 1-0.
Ian Halverson hit a two-run homerun in the second to take the lead 2-1.
The Flyers then scored three unanswered to regain the lead 4-2.
Chase Beattie tied the game, 4-4, in the seventh with a two-run homer.
Dayton scored two more runs to take the lead again 6-4.
The Billikens were unable to extend the game, scoring one run in the ninth with another Beattie homerun. Saint Louis fell 5-6.
The Billikens are back at home on Tuesday when they host Butler. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
