Billikens Win Rubber Match Over Top-Ranked Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Saint Louis defeated Davidson 11-7 on Sunday to win its series against the top team in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Hank Gomric got the Billikens started with home runs in back-to-back innings, helping Saint Louis jump out to a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats responded with a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Hayden Moore extended the lead with his first home run of the season in the sixth, making it 6-2.

Saint Louis tacked on three more runs in the seventh, highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from Ethan Sitzman and Max McGwire, pushing the lead to 9-2.

Davidson chipped away with three combined runs in the seventh and eighth to make it 9-5.

Gomric capped off his standout day with a two-RBI single in the ninth to put the Billikens ahead 11-5.

Davidson added two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the rally fell short, sealing the 11-7 final.

Preston Salazar earned his second win of the season. The Saint Louis pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts and four walks.

Gomric's six RBIs are the most by a Saint Louis player in a single game this season. He also became the first Billiken to hit multiple home runs in a game this year.

The Billikens return home Tuesday, April 15, for a midweek matchup with Lindenwood. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
