ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis baseball team cruised to a 14-5 win over Lindenwood on Tuesday night, scoring in nearly every inning.
The Billikens struck first with back-to-back RBIs from Chase Beattie and Patrick Mendiola.
Lindenwood responded with two home runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Brenden Stressler hit a solo home run in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3, but the Lions answered with another homer, regaining a 4-3 lead.
Saint Louis broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, taking an 8-4 lead. After loading the bases, Ethan Sitzman drove in the tying run. Stressler followed with a two-RBI single, and Joe Connolly recorded his first hit as a Billiken, driving in Stressler. Max McGwire scored on a throwing error during the play.
Lindenwood added its final run in the fifth, cutting the lead to 8-5.
Ian Halverson hit his third home run of the season in the fifth inning, and Beattie hit a three-run homer in the sixth to extend the Billikens' lead to 12-5. McGwire added an RBI single in the seventh, and Beattie hit his second home run of the game in the eighth, capping the score at 14-5.
Stephen Hernandez earned his second win of the season, while the Billiken pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts and two walks.
This marks the second time this season that Beattie has hit two home runs in a game. His first multi-homer game was on March 22 at Dayton.
The Billikens return to action Thursday at the Billiken Sports Center for the first game of an Atlantic 10 series against VCU.
