Billikens Best VCU behind Weber Brothers' Strong Outing

ST. LOUIS — Saint Louis edged VCU 2-1 in a pitchers' duel Thursday evening at the Billiken Sports Center.

The Billikens got on the board in the first inning when Ethan Sitzman drove in Ian Blazier.

VCU was held scoreless for five innings before pushing across a run in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.

In the eighth, Sitzman delivered again, bringing home Blazier for what proved to be the game-winning run.

VCU put a runner on with no outs in the ninth, but Charlie Weber retired the next three batters in order to secure the win for Saint Louis. With the performance, Weber became the first Billiken pitcher to record three wins this season.

Jack Weber threw five scoreless innings before allowing the Rams' lone run in the sixth. Charlie Weber came on in relief and closed out the game. The Weber brothers combined for nine innings without issuing a walk.

Blazier went 3-for-4 and scored both runs for the Billikens.

Saint Louis returns to action Friday with a doubleheader against VCU beginning at 1 p.m.
