RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Louis defeated Richmond 6-4 on Saturday to clinch the series, with a chance for a sweep on Sunday.
The Spiders jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning.
The Billikens responded in the third when Kamaehu Sanchez hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1. Brenden Stressler followed with a two-run homer in the fourth to give Saint Louis a 3-2 advantage.
Austin Neuweg drove in a run in the sixth, and Riley Iffrig added a solo shot in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-2.
Richmond added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Iffrig drove in another run in the eighth to make it 6-3. The Spiders scored once more in the ninth but couldn't complete the comeback.
Josh Cunningham earned his fourth win of the season, pitching seven innings. Ty Holman recorded his first save, allowing one hit over the final two innings.
The Billikens have won seven straight and will go for their second consecutive conference sweep on Sunday at 10 a.m. Central.
