Billikens Take Two from Ramblers

GAME RESULTS
Game 1 – Saint Louis 7, Loyola Chicago 3
Game 2 – Saint Louis 3, Loyola Chicago 2 (8 innings)
Wednesday, April 9, 2025
St. Louis, Mo. (Billiken Sports Center)

THE BASICS
Scout Gallagher's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Saint Louis to a 3-2 victory over Loyola Chicago and a sweep of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.

In game one, SLU scored four runs in the first inning and went on to capture a 7-3 win.

SLU stretched its winning streak to five games and improved to 20-19 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Billikens have won seven straight and nine of their last 11 A-10 games.

GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Karsen Jany ignited Saint Louis' first-inning rally with a leadoff double, and Abby Ulsas followed with a single. They scored on a two-out error by the Loyola left fielder, and following a walk to Scout Gallagher, Chloe Rhine smacked a two-run double.
•Loyola made it a one-run game by scoring three times in the fifth.
•SLU answered with a three-run fifth of its own. A single by Ulsas and a walk to Abby Mallo put two runners on for Jane Kaniecki, who delivered a two-run double. A walk to Rhine and an error prolonged the inning for Allie Marietta, who drew a bases-loaded walk.

GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Starting pitcher Taylor Hochman worked the first five innings, recording her 10th win of the season and her third consecutive victory.
•Anna Christ struck out two and blanked the Ramblers in the final two innings.
•Gallagher had a single.

GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•After Loyola took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, Saint Louis drew even in the bottom of the frame. Ulsas was hit by a pitch leading off, moved to second on Natalie Sullivan's sacrifice and scored on Mallo's double.
•The scenario was repeated in the eighth, only this time the Billikens scored twice to come out on top. Sullivan led off and was hit by a pitch, and Mallo walked. Kaniecki's groundout to the right side advanced the runners, and Gallagher's hard-hit ground ball deflected off the Loyola shortstop, allowing both runners to score.

GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Isabel Royle went the distance in the circle and notched her eighth win of the season. Royle scattered eight hits and walked only one.
•Mallo added a single for a two-hit game.
•Marietta and Kendall Johnson had a single apiece.
•The Billikens turned two double plays.
