KINGSTON, R.I. — The Saint Louis University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Rhode Island on Saturday. The first game resumed from Friday's suspended contest, beginning in the top of the sixth inning.
Game 1
Rhode Island took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning — the only scoring before the game was suspended due to rain. Saint Louis had runners on the corners with one out when play was halted.
When the game resumed Saturday, Max McGwire drove in a run to tie it 1-1. The Billikens took a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Riley Iffrig.
The Rams responded in the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back sacrifice flies to walk it off and win 3-2.
Owen Kelly pitched five innings on Friday, striking out seven.
Game 2
Rhode Island again struck early, scoring once in the first and three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Saint Louis broke through in the seventh with an RBI single by Hank Gomric to make it 4-1, but the Rams added two runs in the eighth to secure a 6-1 victory.
The Billikens look to avoid the sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. Central.
