Billikens Roll Past George Washington 13-5, Hit 30-Win Mark

ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University baseball team defeated George Washington 13-5 on Thursday night at the Billiken Sports Center.

The victory gave SLU 30 wins on the season, marking the third consecutive year with at least 30 wins and the 11th such season under head coach Darin Hendrickson.

The Billikens struck first when Hank Gomric hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Brenden Stressler added a two-RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.

George Washington got on the board with a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1.

SLU responded with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Stressler, scoring Hayden Moore. The Billikens broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs. Kamaehu Sanchez hit an RBI double, followed by a two-RBI single from Riley Iffrig and another two-RBI single from Ethan Sitzman to push the lead to 10-1.

The Revolutionaries scored one run in the seventh, but Iffrig answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half to give Saint Louis a 13-2 advantage.

GW added a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to bring the final score to 13-5.

Owen Kelly earned the win for SLU, improving to 6-2 on the season. He pitched five innings, allowing one run and striking out three.

The Billikens and Revolutionaries will meet again for Game 2 of the series on Friday, May 16. First pitch is currently scheduled for 2 p.m.
