ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Saint Louis University defeated Lindenwood 7-4 on Tuesday night in nonconference baseball action.
The Billikens got on the board early with two runs in the first inning. Chase Beattie drove in the first with a sacrifice fly, and Max McGwire added an RBI to make it 2-0.
Lindenwood tied the game at 2-2 in the third, but Saint Louis answered with three runs in the fourth. Ian Halverson delivered an RBI single, and Riley Iffrig followed with a two-run double to give SLU a 5-2 lead.
The Lions cut the deficit to 5-3 with a run in the fifth.
Saint Louis added two insurance runs in the ninth. Iffrig singled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch. Lindenwood plated one more in the bottom half, but the Billikens held on for the win.
Carter Kelsey earned the win for SLU, improving to 2-0. He pitched three innings in relief, allowing two hits and one run while striking out six.
Saint Louis travels to Rhode Island for a weekend series beginning Friday.
