LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saint Louis scored twice in the second quarter to post a 2-1 victory over Bellarmine Friday at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
The win moves the Billikens' record to 3-1. It is the first 3-1 start to a season since 2020 and is just the second time in 31 years that SLU has won three of its first four games. Additionally, Friday's win marked the first road win against a Division I opponent since 2018.
Ignacia Manriquez got the Billikens on the board at the 16:39 mark. Off a penalty corner, Abby Vidas fired from the top of the circle. Manriquez deflected the ball into the cage to even the score at 1-1. It was Manriquez' second goal of the season.
Sierra Larson tallied the game winner in the 26th minute. She carried the ball into the circle and sent a hard shot toward goal. Shaya Dry was stationed in front of the Bellarmine (0-5) goalie as a screen and the ball found its way over the line for Larson's team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Abby Schalow stopped three shots – including a penalty stroke – for her third win of the season. The penalty stroke save was huge as it came when the game was tied 1-1. The Billikens would score the game-winner just several minutes later.
The Billikens are back in action next Friday for their Atlantic 10 Conference opener at No. 13 Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia. Game time is 2 p.m. (CT). Last year, SLU played St. Joe's tough, falling 1-0 at home. The Hawks went on to play in the NCAA Championship match.
