Vela, Morden Lead Billikens at Gans Creek Classic

Complete Results

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Saint Louis University cross country teams competed in the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri, Friday morning at Gans Creek Cross Country Course, site of the 2025 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

"We struggled as a program this weekend," SLU head coach Jon Bell said. "These were not the results we wanted. I'm definitely not ready to hit the panic button, but we as a team need to take a close look at this weekend and learn from it. There were a few highlights to take away from the day, though. For the men, Manny Vela, Ronnie Brown, Brady Huggins and Aidan Murphy all ran their best 8K times. Renee Ballard once again ran a great race for the women, running under 22 minutes in the 6K for the first time ever."

The Billiken women placed ninth in the 6K Black Division, while the Billiken men finished 21st in the 8K Black Division.

The women's team placed four competitors inside the top 100 of the 236-runner field. Emily Morden led the way, finishing 59th in 21:52.6, followed closely by Emery Mayfield (62nd, 21:53.8) and Renee Ballard (68th, 21:57.9).

Also scoring for Saint Louis were Sophia Pelligreen, 87th (22:08.9), and Clara Gillen, 122nd (22:32.7).

Manny Vela placed 50th among 260 runners in the men's race, clocking a 24:24.0. Rounding out the Billikens' top five were Ronnie Brown, 113th (24:54.3); Lukasz Iwanowski, 158th (25:13.8); Brady Huggins, 188th (25:33.7); and Tyler Schweizer, 194th (25:38.5).

The Billikens return to Gans Creek Cross Country Course Saturday, Oct. 18, to compete in the Pre-National Invitational.
