Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Billikens Top Ohio, 3-1

ST. LOUIS – Three different Billikens scored in a 3-1 Saint Louis victory over Ohio Saturday at the SLU Field Hockey Complex. It was the first win of the season for the Bills, and the first at SLU for interim head coach Laura Hurff.

Saint Louis (1-1) has a quick turnaround for tomorrow's home tilt against Lincoln Memorial. That game begins at noon at the SLU Field Hockey Complex.

On Saturday, senior Shaya Dry got the scoring started for the SLU. Olivia Smith began the scoring play with a long entry. The ball was deflected up, and Dry tapped it into the cage for her first goal of the season and the 11th of her career.

After Ohio (0-3) got one back, Smith scored on a penalty stroke near the end of the second quarter to make it 2-1 in favor of the Bills at halftime. It was Smith's second of the year and eighth of her career.

Sierra Larson scored her first of the season and seventh of her career in the third quarter. Ella Etherington brought the ball into the circle, splitting several defenders, before passing to Larson. Her initial shot was deflected, but she stayed with the play and poked it into the cage for the insurance marker.

The Billiken defense, anchored by goalie Abby Schalow, fought off several corners and opportunities down the stretch by the Bobcats to seal the 3-1 win. Schalow ended up with seven saves for the Bills.
