Billikens Slip Late at Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO — Saint Louis (8-10, 2-3 Atlantic 10) fell 71-64 at Loyola Chicago (6-11, 2-3 A-10) on Sunday afternoon at Gentile Arena.
 
The teams traded baskets early as Loyola Chicago scored inside and Saint Louis connected from beyond the arc. The Billikens followed the first media timeout with a 5-0 run and held a 16-14 lead after the opening quarter.
 
Loyola Chicago shot nearly 45% from the field in the first half, while Saint Louis controlled the glass with a 23-15 rebounding advantage, including 12 offensive boards. The Ramblers outscored the Billikens 23-15 in the second quarter to take a 37-31 lead into halftime.
 
Saint Louis responded with a 16-0 run in the third quarter to grab a 50-44 advantage. The Billikens shot 60% in the period, led by six points apiece from Jahda Denis and Alyssa Koerkenmeier.
 
Loyola Chicago pulled within 57-54 early in the fourth quarter before using a 9-0 run to take a 67-63 lead with 1:02 remaining. Saint Louis was unable to recover as the Ramblers closed out the 71-64 win.
