BRONX, N.Y. – Saint Louis Women's basketball (11-10, 5-3 A10) defeated Fordham (9-9, 1-6 A10) 67-57 on Wednesday morning at Rose Hill Gym.
This was the Billikens first win at Fordham since 2016.
The first quarter started back and forth with neither team scoring consecutive baskets until Fordham went on a 9-0 to lead 16-8, and went into the second quarter with a 16-10 lead.
Alyssa Koerkenmeier led the Bills with six points in the opening 10 minutes.
The Billikens closed within one at 25-24 late into the quarter when they held the Rams scoreless for five consecutive minutes. Fordham took back the lead at 27-26 with a last second shot at the half.
The second half started back and forth again. SLU stayed within one score until the final minute when Fordham went up 44-40.
The Rams went up 47-40 to start the fourth quarter. Saint Louis then held them scoreless for four minutes and cut the lead to 47-45. The game was tied at 53 with a minute to play. A huge defensive stop gave Saint Louis to chance to win the game in overtime with the game tied at 55.
Jahda Denis hit two free throws to put the Billikens up 57-55, that rolled into a 7-0 run for Saint Louis. SLU held Fordham to just two points in overtime.
