ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University field hockey team scored three first-half goals and posted its second shutout of the season Sunday, defeating Maryville, 3-0, at the SLU Field Hockey Complex.
The Billikens improved to 4-7 on the season, while Maryville fell to 0-8.
Sierra Larson provided the offensive spark, scoring twice in the opening half. Larson put SLU on the board just 2:35 into the contest on a penalty corner, with Ella Etherington and Josie Naeger earning assists on the goal. Larson struck again on a penalty corner at the 16:23 mark, once again assisted by Etherington and Naeger, to give the Billikens a 2-0 advantage.
Macy Budd added a third goal at 26:25, converting a feed from RB McGowan to send Saint Louis into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Billikens controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting Maryville 17-1 and holding a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners.Â
Kerri O'Donnell had to be sharp to preserve the shutout as she made a nice save on a fourth quarter attempt by Maryville.
The Billikens resume Atlantic 10 play next Friday when they host Richmond at the SLU Field Hockey Complex. Game time is 2 p.m.
