PENSACOLA, Fla. – Saint Louis fell in both games of a doubleheader Saturday, 3-2 and 7-3, against Ohio State to conclude a season-opening three-game series at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Fla.
The Bills dropped to 0-3 on the year, while Ohio State improved to 3-0.
GAME ONE
Saint Louis battled back from an early 2-0 deficit in the first game, plating runs in the third and fourth innings to tie it up. Ian Halverson hit a solo shot for the Bills' first run, and Max McGwire tied it up with an RBI single.
It was a 2-2 game until the seventh, when Ohio State got a walk and two singles to plate the eventual game-winning run.Â
SLU starter Noah Andrunas allowed five hits and two runs in 5.1 innings while fanning three Buckeyes.
GAME TWO
The Buckeyes jumped on top early, scoring once in the first and again in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Austin Neuweg hit a solo homer in the fifth to trim the SLU deficit to one, but the Buckeyes responded with a three-run fifth inning to regain control.
Saint Louis plated two runs on bases loaded walks in the seventh inning, but stranded the bases loaded trailing 6-3.
Down 7-3 in the ninth, the Bills again loaded the bases and had the potential tying run at the plate with two outs, but the Buckeyes got a groundout to end the game and complete the three-game sweep.
