DAYTON, Ohio – The Billikens fell in a 65-63 heartbreaker to Dayton at UD Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Dayton (14-12, 7-8 A-10) outscored Saint Louis (11-17, 5-10 A-10) 24-12 in the fourth quarter to get the come from behind win.
The Billikens scored on their opening three possessions to race out to a 6-0 lead.
Mia Bergstrom came up big on the defensive end, taking a huge charge and blocking a shot to spark a 7-0
Alexia Nelson run and led 19-13 after the first quarter. Saint Louis shot 65 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes.
Both teams traded points in the second quarter, neither making more than two without a response. A
Zya Nugent steal led to a
Jada Tiggett score to take a 34-26 lead. The Flyers hit a three with three seconds left in the half to cut the Billikens lead to 34-29.
Saint Louis went on a 6-2 run to start the third and lead 40-31. The Billikens took their first double digit lead off a
Jahda Denis three to go up 45-33. Dayton went on an 8-0 run to cut SLU's lead to single digits at 49-41, before two offensive fouls gave the Billikens a score to close their four minute drought and went into to final 10 minutes with a 51-41 lead.
Dayton opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run to cut into SLU's lead at 54-47. And went on another run at 7-0 to bring it to 58-54, Nelson had a clutch and-1 to end the Dayton run. The Billikens led 63-62 with 33 seconds remaining, but could not hang on and Dayton completed the 65-63 comeback victory.
