ST. LOUIS – The Billikens used a big sixth inning to take control and secure an 8-2 win over SIUE on Tuesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
The Cougars struck first with single runs in the first and forth to take a 2-0 lead, but that is where their scoring ended.
The Billikens plated two runs in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
Ian Halverson and
Chase Beattie each delivered RBI singles.
Saint Louis broke it open in the sixth inning.
Riley Iffrig drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Billikens a 3-2 lead, and Beattie followed with a grand slam to extend the advantage to 7-2.
SLU added its final run in the eighth on an RBI double by
Joey Canzoni.
Loren Georger earned his first career win, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts while allowing one hit and no walks.
