ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis rallied late but could not complete the comeback, falling 5-3 to George Mason on Friday night at the Billiken Sports Center.
George Mason jumped out early, using back-to-back home runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Patriots added another run in the third to extend the advantage to 3-0.
The Billikens broke through in the sixth inning.
Austin Neuweg worked a walk and later scored on an RBI from
Drew Kleinheider to cut the deficit to 3-1.
George Mason responded with two runs in the seventh, pushing its lead to 5-1.
Saint Louis mounted a late push in the eighth inning when Neuweg and
Ian Blazier hit back-to-back home runs to trim the margin to 5-3. However, the Billikens were unable to draw closer in the ninth.
