HENRICO, Va. – Saint Louis women's basketball won its opening round game against Fordham 68-60 on Wednesday afternoon at the Henrico Sports and Entertainment Center
Alyssa Koerkenmeier recorded her 12
th double-double of the season with 21 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.
The Billikens made their first three of the game. Saint Louis took the lead on a 5-0 run at 12-10 and were tied at 17 after the first 10 minutes.
Jahda Denis opened the second quarter with a three. The Billikens extended the lead to double digits at 31-21 lead off a 9-0 run. Fordham hit a last second three to go into halftime down 34-28.
The Rams went on a 6-0 run to chop the Billikens lead to 38-36. Both teams traded points with Saint Louis staying in front by a narrow margin. They extended it back to a seven-point lead at 50-43.
Saint Louis went into the fourth quarter leading 50-45. Fordham pulled within one at 55-54. Koerkenmeier scored four straight points to give SLU a 61-56 lead with 90 seconds left. The Billikens closed the game with a 9-0 run to make it a double-digit lead at 66-56.
