ST. LOUIS – Billiken Baseball wont its series against Bradley with a 9-7 win, scoring in four straight innings to take control on Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
The Braves got on the board first with a two-run homerun in the second.
Saint Louis responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Max McGwire,
Matthew Arnold and
Joey Canzoni each singled to drive in a run.
Bradley added another run in the top of the third to tie the game at 3-3. The Bills again responded with another three runs in the inning to take a 6-3 lead and never looked back.
Chase Beattie homered on the first pitch of the inning,
Hank Gomric scored on a wild pitch and
Drew Kleinheider drove in
Austin Neuweg.
SLU extended its lead with one run in the fourth and in the fifth to lead 8-3. Gromic had an RBI triple and Kleinheider added an RBI single.
The Braves got back within striking distance with two runs in the sixth to bring the game to 8-5.
Riley Iffrig drove in the Billikens final run in the eighth to make it a 9-5 game.
Bradley threatened late with a two-run homer in the ninth to make it 9-7.
Drew Welk came in the game with one on and one out and got outs on each of the next two batters to earn his first save of the season.
