Balanced Billikens Oust Rhode Island, 11-7

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis picked up an 11-7 victory Saturday over Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 Conference baseball action at the Billiken Sports Center, evening the three-game series at one win apiece.

The Billikens move to 17-26 overall and 8-12 in league play, while Rhode Island dips to 16-25 and 10-10 in the conference.

Every Billiken in the lineup reached base and scored. Hank Gomric led the way with three RBIs, while Krew Bond and Ahmaad Duff drove in two runs apiece.

The Bills scored once in the third and three more in the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish. SLU broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning.

SLU starter Logan Georger, making the first start of his SLU career, went 4.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out two and walked none. Caden Earing earned the win on the mound, his second of the season.

The Billiken defense came up big in the fourth inning. Duff made a dazzling play on a ball hit to the warning track in center for the first out. Then, Gomric robbed a home run with a leaping grab in left to end the inning.

Inside the Box Score

  • Riley Iffrig was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, the only Billiken with multiple hits. He belted his fourth home run of the season.
  • Hank Gomric's three RBIs tied a career high.
  • Rhode Island used seven pitchers. They combined for 10 walks and three hit batters.
  • Dylan Gormont got the final three outs in the ninth as Rhode Island loaded the bases.

The rubber match of the series takes place Sunday in a noon first pitch at the Billiken Sports Center.
