Rams Take Series with 7-5 Win in Extras

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis fell 7-5 in 12 innings Sunday in the series finale against Rhode Island at the Billiken Sports Center.

The Billikens move to 17-27 overall and 8-13 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while Rhode Island improves to 17-25 overall and 11-10 in the league.

Hank Gomric and Krew Bond paced the Billiken offense with three hits apiece, while Riley Iffrig drove in a pair of runs.

The teams alternated leads through the first six innings, and neither side scored again until Rhode Island pushed across two runs in the top of the 12th. The Rams' Brian Connolly provided the decisive blow with a two-run double to right field. Saint Louis loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but Rhode Island induced a pop-up to shortstop to secure the series win.

Manny Santos (four innings), Connor Grotyohann (one inning) and Joe Sabbath (one inning) combined to hold the Billikens scoreless over the final six innings. Grotyohann earned the win, while Sabbath recorded his second save of the weekend.
