BRONX, N.Y. – Saint Louis swept a doubleheader at Fordham on Friday, using late four-run innings in both games to secure the victories.
GAME ONE
Ben Cherico tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season to lead the Billikens to a 4-0 win.
Saint Louis batted through the order in the ninth inning to break the game open.
Riley Iffrig led off with a single before back-to-back walks loaded the bases.
Joey Canzoni was hit by a pitch to force in the game's first run, and JT Crabbe followed with a bases-clearing double for his first RBIs of the season.
The Billiken defense closed out the shutout in the bottom of the ninth.
GAME TWO
Saint Louis carried the momentum into game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Hank Gomric singled home
Drew Kleinheider.
Fordham tied the game in the fourth, but the Billikens answered immediately in the fifth as Kleinheider delivered an RBI single to regain a 2-1 advantage.
The Rams evened the score again in the bottom of the fifth before Crabbe launched a solo home run in the seventh to put SLU back in front, 3-2.
The Billikens broke the game open with four runs in the eighth inning to seal a 7-2 victory.
Krew Bond drew a leadoff walk before Iffrig singled and Gomric doubled.
Chase Beattie followed with an RBI single to score Iffrig, and Matthew Deutsch added a two-run single later in the inning.
